Heidi Range’s fiancé took over seven hours to choose her engagement ring.

Dave Berry proposed to the Sugababes singer on New Year’s Eve after six years of dating. He knew Heidi would say yes, but still agonised over choosing the perfect band for her.

“Some people just pick a cheap ring and then pick one together later but I wanted to do it properly,” he said. “I went to [London’s jewellery district] Hatton Garden one rainy afternoon. I spent hours walking around; I nearly went to the pub but I stopped myself because I wanted to keep a clear head.

“Eventually, I got it down to seven rings in a lovely little shop and four hours later I was still choosing. I eventually narrowed it down to a handmade one-off.”

Dave hid the sparkler in his underwear drawer for weeks, unable to decide when to pop the question. Eventually he decided on New Year’s Eve, but had to stop himself wanting to propose every day until then.

“I had it hidden in the sock drawer for ages, but I was like a kid at Christmas, desperately wanting to give it to Heidi,” he laughed to the British edition of OK! magazine. “I kept having to say to myself, ‘Don’t do it now while she’s watching Coronation Street!’ ”

The pair are planning to marry in London next October.

HEIDI RANGE’s New Year’s Eve (31Dec10) proposal from her boyfriend DAVE BERRY was far from glamorous – the TV presenter popped the question while the SUGABABES star was in her “pyjamas putting the washing on”.
The couple, dating for seven years, became engaged on 31 December (09) while at home in their London apartment.
And the singer admits she was stunned when Berry dropped to one knee – because she had no idea what he had been planning.
She tells Britain’s OK! magazine, “Our flat overlooks Parliament and the London Eye and we’ve got amazing views of the fireworks on New Year’s Eve so we decided to have a relaxed evening drinking champagne as we were flying early (to India) the next day.
“I was in my pyjamas putting the washing on while watching Love Actually and at five to midnight, I went to get my slippers to go on the roof terrace (and then he proposed).” The pair will wed in October 2011 in London, and Range admits they have already started making preparations for the big day.
She adds, “I haven’t tried any (dresses on) yet but when I did a gig in Barbados with the Sugababes, Vera Wang’s daughter came up to me and said : ‘My mum was at the gig and she’d love to make you a wedding dress.’ I nearly passed out, I’ve always dreamt of a Vera Wang wedding dress!”

Sugababe Heidi Range has admitted that she is “obsessed” with planning her wedding.

The singer, who got engaged to presenter Dave Berry on New Year’s Eve, revealed that she has already started to organise her big day.

“It’ll be next year I think, and maybe a winter wedding,” she told More.

“I’m obsessed already. All I’ve done is look on the internet at wedding sites.

“As soon as we got engaged, the next day I had to go into WHSmith at the airport and buy a bridal magazine. I was on the plane looking really obvious.”

Range recently said that she has asked fellow bandmate Amelle Berrabah to sing at her wedding.

Heidi Range has revealed that she keeps the Sugagabes’ only ever Brit Award above her toilet.

The singer, who picked up the ‘Best Dance Act’ gong with former band members Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan in 2003, admitted that fiancé Dave Berry suggested that the prize be housed in her bathroom.

“I’ve got the award and Dave put it above the toilet in my bathroom,” she told Alex and Lucy on Key 103’s IN:Demand.

“My mum went absolutely mad when she came down. She said, ‘You don’t put that on there. You don’t put your Brit on the toilet’.

“I want everyone to see it, but Dave was like, ‘They will – everyone goes to the loo when they come round’.”

The trio were recently confirmed to perform on the BBC’s Eurovision – Your Country Needs You on March 12.

Sugababes release new single ‘Wear My Kiss’ on February 22. Their album Sweet 7 follows on March 8.
