THE SUGABABES are leading a new fight against cervical cancer - asking girls to wear purple scarves to show support. They sported the garments - to be given away in magazines - as part of the Fight Cervical Cancer in Style campaign.

HEIDI RANGE, AMELLE BERRABAH and JADE EWEN decided to become involved after the band sang at the wedding of JADEGOODY - who died of cervical cancer in March. It is the most common cancer in women under 30 and in most cases victims get it from a virus passed on during sex. Heidi, 26, said: "Having performed at Jade's wedding, it is a subject we feel passionately about. "It is important that girls and women realise how they could catch the virus and steps to take to reduce their risk."

The campaign, developed by GlaxoSmithKline, is run in association with charity Jo's Trust. Director Robert Music said: "The Sugababes can reach women in an engaging way."

Heidi Range says new Sugababes member Jade Ewen is fitting right in.

The Eurovision singer was rushed into the girl-group in September after Keisha Buchanan was ejected out of the band and according to Heidi, things are going well so far.

"Jade has blended in really easily." says Range. "She has worked really hard to learn her parts.

Speaking about when Ewen first joined, Heidi revealed they sat up until the early hours of the morning chatting.

"We were on a radio tour and we weren't far from my mum's house so we both stayed over there." She recalls. "We sat up until four in the morning just chatting, because we didn't know each other.

"Then we realised it was twenty to four and we were getting picked up at seven. We were like, 'We had really better go to bed now'."

As one-third of the current Sugababes line-up, Jade added that she she has "got a big task on my hands and I don't want to disappoint."
